Faith-Based Weight Loss

As Featured On EzineArticles

If religion is a significant part of your life, it can also be helpful in achieving weight-loss goals. Use the suggestions below to consider whether your faith can offer you meaningful opportunities for achieving weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

Weight loss that is faith based usually focuses on overall care for your body especially including concepts of moderation and discipline.

Using religious concepts can help make learning about weight loss and committing to weight loss more meaningful for you. Faith-based weight loss will help you combine your love of learning about the Bible and religion with your weight loss goals which can help improve both your motivation and the ease with which you undertake steps to weight loss.

Weight loss programs that are faith based are frequently less expensive or free when religious organizations sponsor the programs. If your place of worship does not have a faith-based weight loss program they recommend or have incorporated into their programming, consider suggesting to your board that such a program be included.

Weight loss can be encouraged by participating in religious outings based on charity goals such as walkathons or 5K runs that are sponsored for various groups. If your organization does not have such charity-based exercise opportunities presented to their members, consider suggesting a specific exercise-based charity fundraiser.

Consider the disciplines you've undertaken for your religion whether it's attending services at various times or wearing certain clothing or even practicing various dietary restraints and capitalize on the positive feelings you get from discipline as your focus for incorporating stricter eating and exercise habits for yourself.

Encourage religious get-togethers or pot lunches to serve healthier foods rather than traditional high-calorie foods.

If you host meals for religious occasions, consider posting ingredients and calories along with food allergy information as a courtesy for guests.

Consider online options for faith-based weight loss support if you are not currently a member of a religious organization.
Consider downloading audio that you'd like to listen to that is faith-based and reserve your listening only to times you're at the gym so that you'll find yourself looking forward to your workouts.
Expand your religious reading to include concepts about self-respect and values that are movement based such as admonishments against being idle in order to further reinforce your religious and weight loss progress.

Join an exercise group that incorporates prayer into the exercise routine rather than more general periods of meditation.

Use your religious beliefs as an opportunity to get out and move whether it's volunteering or visiting the sick or helping someone paint their home.

Take advantage of the life coaching aspects of faith-based weight loss groups. Instead of an endless focus on food, recipes or even calories, by their nature faith-based weight loss programs offer meaningful tips that can help keep you motivated or improve your outlook or even  understand why prior efforts at weight loss haven't worked permanently.

Faith-based weight loss programs and practices can be a great way to take your current lifestyle and make adjustments to help it incorporate your weight loss goals. Use the tips above to consider whether your faith can provide the key for you to achieve your weight-loss goals.

Tips To Follow If You Want To Lose Weight

As Featured On EzineArticles
There are so many tips out there for people who want to lose weight that there is no way to count them all. When you are on the lookout for weight loss tips, you may find that a lot of what you find is the same thing worded a different way. Here are several tips that may be a quite new for you. Try them if you want to shed some of those unwanted pounds.
When you look for fun date night activities, select those that will burn off a good amount of calories. While going to the movies can be a good way to cuddle up with a new flame, it will not do anything to help your expanding backside. Doing something active like bowling, roller-skating or horseback riding would be a great way to have a great time while you burn some calories. Avoid things that require you to sit still for long periods of time.
When you are watching TV, it is tempting to do it with a bowl of chips or a few slices of pizza on hand. You should not allow TV and food to always go hand in hand. Consider a better combination -- perhaps TV and exercise. There is no reason why you need to be seated to enjoy your favorite shows. Move the coffee table and use all of the extra space to get in some physical activity while you are entertained. You may get so much into your show you will forget you are exercising at the time.
Never choose to do exercises you hate. People that do things they do not like are less likely to continue them over time. The key to working out is finding a good routine and sticking with it. There are several exercises that work each set of muscles. If you are trying something you do not like very much, you can always do your best to find a comparable activity you would enjoy more.
In the winter you may be tempted to blast the heat in order to get nice and toasty. Do not turn up that thermostat too high. If you keep your home at a cooler temperature, your body will have to burn excess energy in order to stay warm. This is not saying you do not still have to do some exercise, but it will make the body burn off a good amount of calories if you keep the temperature down.
Going out to eat has become a common pastime for many people. While there is nothing wrong with it, making it a lot can lead to massive weight gain. If you are going to eat out, try selecting one of the healthier menu items like salad and soup. You can eat higher calorie  enrees if you like, but in that case you should split your meal with someone. You will get to splurge a bit while keeping your waistline in check.
Some of these tips may be quite a bit modified than others you have seen. You should try out a few and see how you like them. They can help you get yourself into shape sooner rather than later.

Stop Gaining Late Night Weight

Many factors contribute to your weight gain, but many of them revolve around things that you do late in the day or evening. Changing these elements of your lifestyle is essential if you hope to turn the tide towards a thinner you. Keep reading into the following paragraphs for the various facets of your nightlife you should be mindful of.
A good day ends with a good dinner. However, this dinner should not be huge or too close to your bedtime. Lunchtime and midday are actually the best time for your biggest meals, as your digestive system is at its peak power. You also have most of the rest of the day to burn off what you eat. Eating too close to sleep means your body is going to pack away more of the calories as stores of fat.

Late night snacks should be handled with care to avoid the same thing. Two things can occur here, and both are bad. First, high calorie snacks might not have time to get digested before you sleep, so the calories are packed away as fat. Or, a high calorie food is going to spike your energy and interrupt your sleep. Snacking is okay, so long as the snack is very small and natural. Stay away from anything sugary, even fruit at this point in the day. A high protein snack, like a few slices of cheese or a handful of almonds or your favorite nut, can actually calm you down enough to sleep better.
Never have sugary beverages like soda in the three or more hours prior to sleep. Caffeine should be avoided up to eight hours before your target bed time. You need neither the stimulation nor the calories.
Never get up to eat during your sleeping hours. If this is occuring, you have a problem. It is likely that your body is deficient in some particular nutrient causing a specific craving. You might also have an emotional issue surfacing. Start with your personal physician for help, and then find a mental health professional if need be.
Just because you have to avoid stimulants prior to sleep does not mean that depressants are a good idea. Avoid alcohol before you lay down for the night. It might put you under for a few hours, but it is not going to be a deep sleep that your body truly needs for rest and renewal.
Get enough sleep and get better sleep. Failing to get enough hours of rest boosts hormone levels that increase appetite, as your body has to compensate for the lost energy from another source. Also remember that your rest time is when your body repairs cells and builds muscle, so all the exercise and protein in the world will not matter when you are not spending enough time snoring in bed.
Altering these specific facets of your nightlife can prove the critical considerations in actually losing weight. Your sleep and the evening hours that precede them account for half your life, so stay mindful of how they are half your weight loss battle.

Five Essential Oils to Aid in Your Weight Loss

As Featured On EzineArticles

Losing weight can be a mighty task for many people, but help is at hand.  If you are looking to add something to your diet changes and exercise plan, then essential oils might be just the thing.  You can find essential oils at health food suppliers and some of the "natural" grocers in your area.

1. Lemon Oil.  Lemon oil can boost metabolism and improve immune functions.  Boosting your metabolism is a great benefit if you find that you have reached a plateau in your weight loss, and helping your immune system is an added boon.  Some people find it difficult to stick to a diet and exercise plan if they have a cold, so taking care of your immunity should be a priority.  Lemon oil has also shown promise as an anti-depressant in research.  Since depression can lead to overeating, lemon oil can help you keep a bright mood and a trim waist line.  If you add a few drops to a little coconut oil and spread over your problem areas, you can help tighten the skin as well.

2. Peppermint oil.  If you feel like you are still having trouble over consuming at each meal, you should consider adding peppermint oil to your routine.  Peppermint oil has been shown to affect the areas of your brain that trigger feelings of fullness.  You can either place a few drops in a glass of water to drink before meals, or place a few drops on a piece of cloth and sniff it when you feel yourself having cravings.

3. Bergamot.  If you feel that your weight is directly tied to your stress levels, perhaps you should consider using a stress relieving essential oil such as bergamot.  Bergamot comes from a genus of plants that Native Americans had used as medicinal plants, and tends to help relieve stress and tension.  Simply sniff a few drops of bergamot to help calm your nerves.  There is also a possibility that bergamot has hormonal support capabilities.

4. Grapefruit.  Grapefruit oils are a refreshing addition to your weight loss regime.  Grapefruit is even sometimes used in cellulite treatments because it is believed it may assist with fat cell reduction.  Add a few drops to your massage oil and rub it into your skin.  You can also inhale it to help curb and hunger pangs or cravings you are having.

5. Ocotea.  Ocotea oil comes from an Ecuadoran tree, and has an odor and flavor remarkably similar to cinnamon.  It is used to help control blood glucose levels, food cravings, and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol.  To use, place a few drops in a glass of water to help control your blood sugar and reduce cravings.  You can also place a few drops under your tongue for a more powerful effect.

If you're ready to take your weight loss to the next level, perhaps it is time you considered using essential oils.  There are many more essential oils than on this list that can help you, but the oils listed here are a great way to begin adding essential oils to your diet plan.

Maintaining Nutritional Health During Different Seasons

As Featured On EzineArticles

Once you've incorporated good nutrition into your healthy lifestyle you might notice that you don't feel like eating the same foods when the seasons change. Use the suggestions below to leave yourself room for seasonal adjustments to your diet while meeting your nutritional needs.
Whether you tend towards inactivity during the extremely hot summer months or hibernate during the winter months, it's important to adjust your calorie intake to reflect seasons when you're more inactive than at other times of the year. The addition of a multi-vitamin during seasons when you tend to be less active is a good way to maintain good nutrition and eat less.
Many people prefer hot foods during the winter months. To preserve the benefits of eating nutritionally beneficial foods while satisfying your desire for hot foods, consider parboiling fresh vegetables to have with your meals instead of canned soups or vegetables which contain additional ingredients that are less healthful.
Consider creating your own fruit salads during summer months from berries and melons that are frequently more plentiful and less expensive when they're in season. You can also create healthful smoothies made from 100 percent fruit to incorporate summer fruits and their nutritional benefits into your healthy diet.
Think of meeting your nutritional needs by serving healthful foods in different ways. Instead of simply eating raw apples, consider serving apples different ways such as coring apples and putting raisins and cinnamon in the space and baking them for 20 minutes or so.
Use pastas and rice that are rich in fiber rather than other pastas and rice. During summer months consider making favorite macaroni salad recipes using the healthier pasta.
Avoid drinking more alcohol during holiday seasons and during summer months. Alcohol is not beneficial either nutritionally or otherwise for your health. Instead plan on drinking bottled waters or sparkling water instead of alcohol during these seasons.
Consider incorporating local foods that are in season into your diet. Purchasing local foods frequently allows you to purchase fresher food while supporting the local economy and meeting your nutritional requirements.
Avoid dehydration all year round. During winter months when you may not feel as thirsty it's important to keep your water intake sufficient for hydration. Your nutritional needs are better met when you keep your digestion flowing so-to-speak with water. Consider substituting an herbal tea for hot cocoa during winter months.
When you're entertaining try incorporating one new healthy recipe into your usual meal plans. Whether you include grilled fish instead of just hamburgers and hot dogs or grilled vegetables instead of fries, a simple substitution can support nutritional and health goals.
When you're on vacation limit experimental eating in order to sample local cuisine. Unfortunately you'll frequently find that diving into the cultural delights of food abroad can leave you with major stomach issues that can result in depleting needed nutrition as a result of diarrhea or vomiting. Instead sample local cuisine while maintaining your eating habits.
The change in seasons frequently means you'll change your diet but should not mean that you sacrifice your nutritional goals. Use the suggestions above to modify your diet and maintain its nutritional benefits during different seasons of the year.

Go Easy on Yourself Regarding Nutrition

As Featured On EzineArticles

Proper nutrition in your diet and body can be the road to both a happier and healthier you. However, starting down this road can prove really intimidating, which certainly defeats the purpose of the entire endeavour. Rather than being compulsive over meeting your minimum daily recommendations of dozens of different elements to a proper diet, why not instead focus on a more overall balanced approach?
Consider your daily schedule. When could you possibly sneak in servings of fruit into your day? Mealtimes do not seem to be good choices for trying to add fruit. Unless consumed at the beginning of a meal, fruit mixed in with everything else can upset digestion. Instead, consider sprinkling raisins, blueberries and grapes into your breakfast. Apples and bananas always make handy snacks.
When it is mealtime, are there veggies on your plate? Veggies are easy to add, as either frozen or canned goods can be had cheap and boiled or steamed quickly. They do not have to be a separate item either. Any dish out there can have a veggie or two added to it for more health and a flavor kick.
Doctors will tell you that multi-vitamins are no substitute for proper nutrition in your diet, and they are right. Vitamins are not a cure-all band-aid for fast and processed foods. However, in conjunction with a good diet, they can help fill in the gaps of any particular minerals or nutrients you might be missing. This is really helpful when certain fruits might go out of season for a while.
Do you see your physician regularly for annuals? Make sure they are doing blood work to look for deficiencies. It is a lot easier and a lot less painful to deal with a vitamin deficiency before you start seeing the symptoms manifest. It is also cheaper and less stressful, as you and your doctor will not be weeding through potential issues to narrow it down.
Be confident in how much protein you are getting. Some will advise you to only get the levels of protein your body would need at its healthy or optimal weight, thinking you can starve yourself down to that size. However, this leaves your body in starvation mode, not fat-burning mode. Get enough for your size and adjust it lower as you lose weight, or higher in fact if you start putting on lean muscle mass you want to keep.
Stay hydrated. The sufficient flow of water through your body affects each and every cell, and not having enough starts messing everything up. At the very least it helps you stay cool and cleaner inside thanks to your ability to sweat. A good rule of thumb is to notice the color of your urine. Clear urine means at least adequate hydration. Gold or yellow indicates that you need to drink more water. Other colors mean you should talk to your doctor if they happen more than once.
When you let your body be healthy, it lets you be happy. Your physique craves a diverse selection of dietary staples from your meals. In fact, you need it to keep your body-machine balanced and running smoothly. Getting a handful of many wonderful things is far better for you than eating a lot of a few great things. Keep the ideas and advice in this article in mind to improve your diet in the coming days.

Fabulous Ideas to Increase Your Nutrition Knowledge

As Featured On EzineArticles

Do you want to eat healthier foods? Are you uncertain how to figure out what foods are nutritious and which aren't? Do you wonder what good nutrition even means? If so, this article has some great ideas to help you increase your nutrition knowledge. Read on to learn some of the basics when it comes to nutrition.
Eating right includes getting the proper amount of protein in your diet. Make certain to choose low-fat options, like turkey meats and beans. How much protein you need will vary depending upon your age and size. The amount of activity and your fitness goals can also influence the amount of protein your body needs. Remember that protein is an important factor in muscle development.
Nutritionally speaking, sugar should be limited to those that occur naturally. Plain sugar in coffee, cakes and other sweets do not offer any nutritional value, and it can weaken your immune system. Artificial sweeteners have been associated with problems also. To satisfy sweet cravings, stick to fruit, or try something outrageously different, like a pickle.
You should also familiarize yourself with the various types of fat. Fats that are solid at room temperature cause more health problems than those that are still liquid. Practice reading the labels on your favorite foods and comparing the fat content. You should also choose lean cuts of meat. When you purchase dairy products, go for low-fat or fat-free.
Another important nutritional concern is maintaining proper levels of hydration. Some foods, like celery and watermelon, have high levels of water and can make a contribution to your overall water intake. Water consumption levels depend upon a number of factors, including your level of activity and the climate. If you exercise, it is important to drink water before, during and after to ensure that you do not run into medical difficulties.
Learn to read the nutrition labels on your prepackaged foods. These labels contain information like what is considered a serving size and how many calories each serving has. Understanding the serving size is important because the manufacturer often has a different idea of it than the average consumer.
Even if you aren't reading a nutrition label to guide you, make your portions smaller at each meal. You will automatically decrease your consumption of fat and calories if you are not eating as much. To make it easier, try eating your main meal on a salad plate, or even a child-sized plate if you have children. If your bowls are large, consider replacing them with smaller ones for the same reason.
You should also make certain that you consume enough fiber to keep your digestive system moving regularly. Fiber can be found in whole grain breads and fresh fruits and vegetables.
These are some of the basic nutritional concepts that you need to understand if you want to eat a well-balanced diet. Take the time to read the labels and eat small portions of low-fat foods that are high in fiber and protein. Following these tips will help you to establish a lifestyle habit of eating well.
